Tirupur: In a heart-wrenching turn of events, three members of one family decided to end their lives in Tirupur on Sunday, after leaving money behind for their funeral expenses.

Durairaj (70) along with his son Gopalakrishnan (39) and his daughter Shanthi (35) were residing at Chinna Kaalipalayam near Mangalam in Tirupur. Durairaj had lost his wife Rasathi, 20 years ago. His other daughter Selvi who was married had lost her husband and was living with her son Raghunathan (22). Due to personal issues, Durairaj's son Gopalakrishnan and daughter Shanthi were unmarried.
Recently, Raghunathan had hung himself. Following the suicide of his grandson, Durairaj was reportedly in deep grief. On Sunday, when Gopalakrishnan went to meet his sister Selvi, he handed over Rs.30,000 to her and hinted that she would require the cash in the near future. However, Selvi was apparently clueless at that time about what the money was for.
On Sunday night, Durairaj and Shanthi reportedly consumed poison, while Gopalakrishnan hung himself. Since the three had not ventured out of their homes on Monday morning, neighbours became suspicious and alerted the police.

The Mangalam police rushed to Durairaj's home and found Durairaj and Gopalakrishnan already dead, while Shanthi was battling for her life. She was sent to Palladam Government Hospital and later shifted to Coimbatore Government Hospital where she passed away.
After learning that the family had actually left money behind with Selvi for their funeral expenses, Selvi and the family members and neighbours were distraught with grief and heartbroken.
