The Nilgiris : Tense moments prevailed at the Collectorate in Ooty on Monday, after auto drivers along with their families gathered to surrender their Aadhar cards condemning the Ooty auto drivers association who have been threatening them for setting a separate auto stand in Elk Hills.

For over 30 years, the residents who have been living in Elk Hill area in Ooty have been denied of proper transport facilities. Lack of transport facilities force them to rely on autos or walk eight kilometers to reach the main road.
As some auto drivers take advantage of the situation and charge them between Rs. 150-200 and even more, the auto drivers from Elk Hill set up a stand to provide them services for a reasonable price.
"Condemning the move of setting up a separate stand, the auto drivers association in Ooty repeatedly threatened us to shut down the stand. They also urged the auto drivers to avoid providing service to people travelling to Elk Hill", the auto drivers from Elk Hill said.
Hence, the frustrated auto drivers of Elk hill along with their families staged a protest demanding action against the auto drivers association and threatened to surrender their Aadhar cards.
Following assurance from the District Collector to initiate action, the protesting auto drivers dispersed.
