Coimbatore: In a shocking incident in Mettupalayam, an electrician who was in an inebriated condition was beaten to death in a newly-constructed building.
At a new building site in a privately-owned area at Odandhurai on MTP- Ooty Road, 15 workers were engaged in construction and electrical work. Sundaresan (26), the son of Rajashekaran, a resident of Thanthondri Malai, Karur and his friend Palaniyandi arrived at the site for work, three days ago. While 10 out of the 15 workers went home yesterday after receiving their salary, the remaining five workers stayed back at the site to consume liquor.
An inebriated Sundaresan reportedly seized the mobile phones of three workers. The trio and Sundaresan ended up in a verbal tussle while questioning Sundaresan about their mobile phones. In a fit of rage, the trio allegedly assaulted Sundaresan with a wooden rod. Sundaresan was injured severely and reportedly fell unconscious on the spot. The trio fled the spot.
Subsequently, when the contractor came to the building site in the evening since it was a holiday, he was shocked to find Sundaresan lying unconscious and rushed him to the MTP Government Hospital where he was declared dead. The incident was then reported to the MTP police who went to the spot and investigated the unfortunate incident. The police have now launched a man-hunt for the three suspects who had beaten up Sundaresan.
