Persimmon, a tomato like fruit is the national fruit of Japan and has its origin in Australia. Unlike other fruits, these fruits do not ripen in the tree. They are picked from the tree and then artificially ripened using ethanol.
The fruit which is claimed to be rich in vitamins A and B can be brought from the sales counter in Coonoor Sim's park at a cost of Rs. 150/- per kg.
Persimmon fruit tree seedlings are also available at the sales counter of Sim's Park. The harvest season will end by September.
