"Badaga and Toda lanaguages will be preserved for posterity. The State government will give more importance for archeological researches and preserving Tamil culture", said Ma Foi K. Pandiarajan, Minister for Tamil language, Tamil Culture and Archeology here on Sunday.
The Minister was in the city to attend a book launch function at a private hotel here. Addressing the media after the launch, the Minister affirmed that the state government have alloted additional funds to preserve Tamil culture and support archeological studies.
He also agreed that the Centre did not sanction the required grant for Keezhadi research. Still, the State government will continue to put pressure to the Centre for funds, he added.
"In a bid to preserve Badaga and Toda tribal languages for posterity, the State government has sought funds from UNESCO. The State government will give importance to protect and preserve the ancient drawings and manuscripts retrieved from The Nilgiris and other parts of the State", the Minister opined.
When questioned on the circular of the Central government which restricts the language of writing the postal services exam to Hindi or English, removing the earlier option of regional languages, including Tamil, the Minister said that the State government will fight to protect the interests of the people.
"The AIADMK government is against forcing Hindi in postal examination, we will fight for it in a peaceful manner", he said.
He also opined that the new education policy draft should be scrutinised before implementation.
