Coimbatore : Condemning the delay in commencing of 'Rajagopuram' works in Vana Badrakaliamman temple in Mettupalayam (MTP) here, the cadres of Hindu Munnani held a demonstration in MTP.

They alleged that "Seven years ago, a bhoomi pooja was done to build a seven storey Rajagopuram at the temple. However, the construction works were stopped after the first phase. Due to incomplete works, the construction materials are piled up all over the place causing nuisance to the devotees on a daily basis."

District Secretary, Rajkumar headed the protest that took place in front of the Mettupalayam bus stand.

During the protest, the cadres questioned on the non utilisation of funds that was allotted to the temple. "A fund of Rs. 40 crores was deposited in the temple's account to enhance facilities for the devotees and other works. To the contrary, the funds have not been used judiciously, till date. The government is yet to appoint a trustee for the temple", they noted.

The protestors also condemned the practice in temples of collecting tickets for dharshan from the public. "Temples in Tamil Nadu should follow the 'free dharshan' method followed in Kerala, Karnataka and Northern States", they urged.
