Coimbatore : Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode conducted a wokshop, Leadership 4.0 at a private hotel in Coimbatore yesterday. The workshop was organised to share knowledge on leadership skills to various stake holders including CEOs, Academicians, Management professionals, Industrialists, Entrepreneurs and Healthcare professionals. The programme organised in association with Coimbatore Management association was attended by 150 participants.

Speaking at the event, Lakshmi Narayanaswamy, President, Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore Chapter talked about the entrepreneurial skills of Coimbatore. "Coimbatore is known for its unique entrepreneurial capacity where the city was developed by the business community and entrepreneurs who were ahead of their age. With 50,000 MSME units, 82 Engineering colleges and a large number of arts and science colleges, Coimbatore is an Ideal educational and Industrial hub", said Lakshmi Narayanaswamy.

Debashis Chatterjee, Director IIM-Kozhikode talked about Leadership, Learning and the current business scenario. Stating the importance of Leadership Skills, the IIM Director said "Leadership in the industrial era has moved from Muscular to Responsive Leadership in the technology era.

Now its no more about Technology, its about the Human mind which is far superior than any computer or technology. Its about being responsive to an opportunity and converting into a succesful venture like what two design students in San Francisco did which gave birth to AirBnB, which in the span of 10 years became bigger than Hilton group of Hotels and American Airlines. It’s not about brick and mortar structures. Nike or Reebok does not own even a shoe manufacturing unit but they are the market leaders. Its about an Idea converted into a right business model".

The Professor eloborated on four themes of leadership - Authenticity, Connectivity, Productivity and Possibility. Debashis Chatterjee quoted the example of Mcdonalds which is advertising its supply chain to show authenticity and transperency in business.

The session provided some great insights into the diverse perspectives and the need to develop high potential leaders who can create value in the changing world.
