Coimbatore: At a time when the government, NGOs, environmentalists and even common public in the City are brainstorming possible ways to increase the green cover and restore our City’s lost landscape, some people still keep cutting trees and branches for bizarre reasons.
In an incident near Karunya Nagar here, tree branches were cut on Saturday to facilitate a plastic banner to celebrate Sam Paul Dinakaran, son of evangelist Paul Dinakaran. According to local sources, the branches of the tree which was on the side of the road were axed by a few men who initially claimed to have no connection to Karunya College or to Angel Gardens.

They even disclosed that no prior permission was obtained to trim down the branches and this was done to give more way for an entrance. And today (Sunday), at the same place, this tall flex banner for celebrating the birthday of a genetic evangelist Sam Paul Dinakaran was erected with names of office bearers of the Karunya Institutions wishing him for his birthday.
At a time when big institutions like Karunya are under the scanner for huge allegations of encroachment and destruction of natural corridors along the Western Ghats, such actions show the callousness of the management towards conserving nature. Moreover, these institutions are helped and camouflaged by the fact that they are very much away from the city limits and hence many violations don’t come to light to the concerned officials on time.
