Coimbatore: S.P.Velumani, Minister for municipal and rural administration distributed welfare measures to the tune of Rs.79.33 lakhs to beneficiaries at an event organised here on Saturday.

While 100 beneficiaries were given two wheelers, under women development scheme, 21 beneficiaries received battery operated tricycles and 26 others hearing aids, under District Rehabilitation centre. 50 Girl children were given fixed deposit receipts and solatiums for the next of kin of two persons who died due to drowning here were also distributed.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the developmental works are being augmented in the district, and the airport expansion project when implemented would generate job opportunities for the local population.

Later the Minister, flagged off the Rainwater Harvesting campaign vehicles under the aegis of City Corporation.

MLA Amman Arjun, Arukutty, Kanakaraj, and MP A.K.selvaraj and District Collector K. Rajamani, CCMC Commissioner Shravan Kumar and other officials took part in the function.
Though the function was scheduled for 11 am, the Minister arrived to the collectorate campus only at about 3.30 pm due to a delay in the previous event.

Due to this, the beneficiaries had to wait for long hours. The lack of planning from officialdom was cited as the reason for the long wait by the beneficiaries.
