The Nilgiris: Farmers in the Nilgiris District rejoiced as rains lashed Ooty, Coonoor and neighboring areas this evening.

They opined that the welcome rains will benefit crops like carrot, beetroot and potato. With the south west monsoon playing truant in the Nilgiris, farmers in the region were a worried lot since the much-needed spell of rains to save their crops did not seem to be in sight. It is expected that the current spell of rains might also help improve the storage situation in Nilgiris reservoirs which could regularise drinking water supply in the district.
