Coimbatore: The inaugural function for installing 200 surveillance cameras in the C-1 Kattoor police station limits near Gandhipuram Thiruvalluvar Bus Stand was held.
Following orders by Sumit Saran, the City Police Commissioner and led by Balaji Saravanan, the Deputy Commissioner of Law and Order, surveillance cameras known as the 'third eye' are being installed in various parts of the city by the city police. The CCTV cameras are meant to step up vigil in the city and to control crimes by nabbing culprits involved in violation of rules, murder and burglary.
As a part of the first phase, over 4,000 CCTV cameras are being fixed in R S Puram, Peelamedu police station limits and Saibaba Colony police station limits. The CCTV cameras are being installed with the help of the Police Department Residential Associations and social organisations.
Meanwhile, over 200 sophisticated cameras that can be easily spotted have been set up in various parts of the C-1 Kattoor police station limits, especially in areas like the Gandhipuram Bus Stand, Sathy Road, Avarampalayam Road, GP Signal and 100 feet road.
The inaugural ceremony of the installation of these surveillance cameras and the renovated C-1 Kattoor Police Assistance Center was held near the Thiruvalluvar Bus Stand in Gandhipuram.
Sumit Saran, the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner, Balaji Saravanan, the Deputy Commissioner of Law & Order, Coimbatore City, Ezhil Arasu, the Asst Commissioner, Vetriselvan the Asst Commissioner (Intelligence) and Sivakumar the Katoor Police Station Inspector who was actively involved in installing these surveillance cameras, Siva, owner of Sridevi Silks and the public took part in the inaugural event.
