Coimbatore : While the City Corporation is already struggling to control dumping of household and construction debris wastes along the bunds of lakes in the city, it has come to light that bio-medical wastes are being dumped along the bunds of Sengulam in Kuniamuthur here.
Environmentalists and NGOs working towards lake rejuvenation have urged the City Corporation to address the issue, as dumping of bio-medical wastes pose a serious threat to the bio-diversity of the lake.

Of late, it is reported that miscreants have been dumping large amounts of bio-medical wastes like used syringes, blood-stained cotton and gauzes, expired medicines, broken bottles of injections along the bunds of Sengulam in Kuniamuthur.
Earlier, complaints have beeb raised by the environmentalists to curb such incidents as careless disposal of such bio-medical wastes could create infectious diseases and pose imminent threat to the water in the pond. Fishes and nesting birds could die in large numbers, if bio-medical wastes are dumped in water bodies, opine environmentalists.

They have jointly appealed to the district administration and city corporation to nab the miscreants and the hospitals of stringent legal action for dumping medical wastes in the water bodies.
