Coimbatore : At a press briefing in Coimbatore today, the Tamil Nadu 'Kal Iyakkam' Organiser, Nallasamy alleged that a large amount of odourless industrial oil which is a residue from petroleum products is being mixed in the cooking oils that are being used today. He opined that this poses a health hazard for people using gingelly and groundnut oils.
Coimbatore : At a press briefing in Coimbatore today, the Tamil Nadu 'Kal Iyakkam' Organiser, Nallasamy alleged that a large amount of odourless industrial oil which is a residue from petroleum products is being mixed in the cooking oils that are being used today. He opined that this poses a health hazard for people using gingelly and groundnut oils.
Nallasamy also announced that the Lower Bhavani Irrigation Protection Meet to be held on July 23 will ensure that the Water Resources Management Board will not make any more blunders and will also help in retrieving irrigation rights. Over one lakh people are expected to participate in the Meet. "The Cauvery Water Management authority and both the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka Governments have failed to adhere to the orders of the Supreme Court. The Tamil Nadu Government must immediately submit a reconsideration regarding the same. He accused that water had not been supplied as per orders for the past 28 years and since the Karnataka government is now dealing with an internal political crisis, water cannot be expected to be released at this moment.
Nallasamy stated that if the Karnataka Government goes ahead with the Mekedatu Dam project, Tamil Nadu's agricultural lands will be widely affected. He added that it was shocking that the rains this year had reduced by 17 percent and Tamil Nadu was now at the risk of facing drought. He also opined that the prices of food will increase in 2020 and said that overpopulation is the main reason for all the problems.
Nallasamy stressed on executing the Pandiyaru-Punnampuzha project which will allow Tamil Nadu to receive 14 TMC water. He said, "As a first phase, Pandiyaru must be linked to Maayaru as the forefront of linking Godavari and Cauvery. Only a minimal budget is required to implement this project. There should be a separate ministry for irrigation," he added.
