Old statues found by youth fishing in the Kamaraj Sagar Dam near Ooty

The Nilgiris: A few youngsters, fishing in the Kamaraj Sagar Dam were taken by complete surprise when they found statues in the Dam.

The Nilgiris: A few youngsters, fishing in the Kamaraj Sagar Dam were taken by complete surprise when they found statues in the Dam. 



They informed the Divisional Officer Suresh who went to the spot to inspect the statues. The statues were identified as old Navagraha statues and were soon retrieved from the Dam.

Speaking to the media, the youth said that the statues which they had spotted were retrieved and there were chances for more of them to be found in the deeper parts of the Dam. They said that the concerned officials will announce if more are found. The Divisional Officer Suresh confirmed that these were indeed old statues and were found because of the low water levels in the Dam. 

He further informed that the statues have been handed over to the Tahsildar office where the ageing test will be done and later inspected in front of the District Collector.



The Kamaraj Sagar Dam (also known as Sandynalla reservoir) is in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu. It is located at a distance of 10 km from the Ooty bus stand and is renowned for being a picnic spot and a film shooting spot on the slopes of the Wenlock Downs.
