Coimbatore: An uncommon sight of two stubborn cows locking horns in the middle of the road in Sukrawarpettai near Gandhi Park in Coimbatore surprised motorists.
The tussle also inconvenienced passers-by since the cows were unrelenting and kept vehicles at bay for a whole 20 minutes.
The public have long complained about cattle menace on the busy Raja Street and Ukkadam areas which not only cause traffic congestion but have also been instrumental in causing accidents. Cows and goats straying freely onto the roads have troubled morning commuters who themselves are in a hurry to get to their schools, colleges and offices.
The public lament that in spite of repeated complaints, no action has been initiated thus far by authorities.
In one such instance, at 11.30 am yesterday, two cows locked horns in a long drawn out battle right in the middle of the road, near the Pasuvannan temple, en route to Sukrawarpettai. In spite of shop owners trying to separate the two cows by dousing water as well as hitting them with sticks, the cows did not relent.
Traffic in the area came to a standstill for almost 20 minutes after which the cows were forced to unlock horns and move on.
