Coimbatore: Based on the petition filed by Dr. Abdul Jaleel from Coimbatore, the Coimbatore Consumer Court has ordered an airlines company to compensate the doctor for the stress he went through during travel, due to the oversight of the airlines.

Dr. Abdul Jaleel stated in his petition, "I had pre-booked on an airline for a round trip to America from Coimbatore. As planned, when I returned to New Delhi on April 29, 2013, I was told by the airline staff that my ticket to Coimbatore was not yet confirmed and hence i cannot board the 7 am flight. When I enquired again at 8 am, another staff told me that he was sorry to inform me that my ticket was confirmed but the other staff had made a mistake in passing on the information.

This caused a great deal of stress and cost me an extra Rs. 9731 for I had to book on another private airline to travel from Delhi to Coimbatore." In his petition, Dr. Abdul Jaleel also demanded that the airlines ought to bear the cost of his ticket from Delhi to Coimbatore and compensate for the stress he went through.

Justice A P Balachandran, Coimbatore Consumer Court heard the case and ordered the airlines to pay Rs 9,731 to the doctor with 9 percent interest and also slapped a penalty of Rs. 50,000 on the airlines which was to be given as compensation to the doctor for the stress he went through, as well as pay him Rs.3,000 for the legal cost of the case.
