Coimbatore: With the Under ground drainage system work happening all over the city, CCMC has connected 3000 house hold sewers out of the total of 40000 connections. Once connected UGD lines will be connected to the Sewage treatment plant at Ukkadam.
The project was started in 2009 under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban renewal mission (JNNURM).
To expedite work Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner has appointed three Executive engineers to look into the UGD work in the city.
Now with work speeding up 3000 house hold sewers were connected in and around Ukkadam area and in few other parts of the city. The work is happening in Ukkadam at a fast pace because the STP at Ukkadam is fully functional compared to Ondipudur and Vellalore which is yet to be set up.
CCMC Commissioner J. Sravan Kumar today mentioned during the GDP at Corporation office that UGD work in the city is taken up on a priority basis.
"Three Executive Engineers were given this job to expedite work. Wherever there are old drainage systems work is getting completed fast. In some newly added areas everything has to be started like laying pipelines, connecting household sewers to the main line can take place only after that. In many areas people have just connected sewer lines to storm water drains. In such localities we are desilting the drains and then we go ahead with our work. We are trying to finish UGD work as top priority" said Sravan Kumar.
