Coimbatore : A burqa-clad woman from Anna Colony in D4 Kuniamuthur police station limits was riding pillion on a two-wheeler with two men on February 2. Sadibullah, son of Mohammed Ali from Karumbukkadai and Mohammed Ibrahim, son of Sulaiman from Kurinji Nagar, Kuniamuthur blocked the two-wheeler near Aathupalam, Marakkadai and taunted the woman questioning her integrity and religion.

Sadibullah, son of Mohammed Ali from Karumbukkadai and Mohammed Ibrahim, son of Sulaiman from Kurinji Nagar, Kuniamuthur blocked the two-wheeler near Aathupalam, Marakkadai and taunted the woman questioning her integrity and religion.
The public who had gathered on the road intervened and asked the woman and the men along with her to return home. But Sadibullah and Mohammed Ibrahim stopped them from leaving and asked the woman, if one of the men was her lover. They began belting the men and brandished knives threatening to kill them, while abusing them verbally all along.
The woman who had lived in fear the past few months finally found the courage to lodge a complaint with the D-4 Kuniamuthur police station about the attack and a case was registered under 341, 342, 2949B, 323, 324, 506(ii) and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Sexual Harassment of Women Act on July 9. On the orders of Inspector Sakthivel of Kuniamuthur police station, the two accused were arrested and sent to Court custody. Police have launched a man-hunt for two other men who were involved in the attack.
L Balaji Saravanan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) warned that it was illegal for anyone to take the law in their own hands and act against the personal freedom of others. He also warned that those who engage in such activities will be legally punished.
