Coimbatore: The son of a drunk driver who knocked down a pedestrian near Alanthurai, got into a scuffle with the kin of the victim.

The father-son duo tried to escape from the spot in their car, causing the kin to be enraged further which led them to attack the duo.
Rangasamy was walking by the side of the road in Kallipalayam near Alanthurai in Coimbatore. Kottaikadu Babu, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol knocked down Rangasamy and injured him. Rangasamy was admitted to a nearby hospital and his kin surrounded Babu, demanding that he compensate by paying Rangasamy's medical expenses.

Meanwhile, police arrived at the the spot to get Babu to reach a consensus with the kin, but since Babu was unrelenting, the kin staged a protest. Babu's son Hari Prasad too had reached the spot to protect his father and lead him away. But the irate kin and public surrounded their car to prevent them from leaving. Hari Prasad, in an attempt to escape from the scene, drove the car rashly and reportedly injured several people around the spot.

Angry protesters attacked the father and son who were in the car. In the ensuing melee, police had to intervene and separate the fighting parties to disperse the crowd and ensure law and order was restored at the accident spot.
