Coimbatore : In a bid to ascertain the correctness of the 'Below Poverty Line' (BPL) applications, the City Corporation will be holding door-to-door verification to verify the details for inclusion in the below poverty line (BPL) list.
According to sources from CCMC, though applications for inclusion in BPL were received before elections, recently the State Government has instructed the Corporations to conduct field verification of the applications.
A senior Corporation official said that CCMC would deploy around 600 field staff to complete the verification process within a specified time of 15 days.

"During the verification process, the officials will check the following details furnished in the application -- detaiils of family members, banking details, Aadhaar number, the type of house -rented or owned, details of assets among others", he noted.
"The field verification staff will thoroughly check if the furnished details are true, if any discrepancies are found, the staff would make a note of it", said the CCMC official.
He also added that "Close to 1.50 lakh applications were received to be included in the BPL list. The last list was prepared in 2008 and it had close to 65, 000 families. The local bodies were asked to receive fresh applications and upload the list. Once verification by the Corporation is complete, the one-time financial assistance of Rs 2000, announced by the Chief Minister in February will be disbursed."
