The Karnataka Government has finally come forward to release due share of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu, following a continuous increase and copious inflow into its reservoirs. According to reports reaching here, the Karnataka Chief Minister Kumarasamy acceded to release due quantum of water to Tamil Nadu, as was ordered by the Cauvery Management Board earlier. With Tamil Nadu reeling under the grip of severe drought conditions, the release of Cauvery water is expected to be a godsend for TN's scorched landscape but more importantly for the people of Tamil Nadu.
With water resources drying up and water supply being erratic in TN during May and June, the Cauvery Management Board which is the implementing agency for the Cauvery tribunal award had asked Karnataka to release 9.19 tmcft and 31..24 tmcft for the months of June and July on June 25. But Karnataka had failed to implement the order then, citing poor storage in its reservoirs.
