Deputy Commissioner of Law and Order advises a positive approach to enrich the lives of transgender community

Coimbatore: Basic necessities were distributed to the transgender community at an event jointly hosted by the Coimbatore Fraisier and Rotary Ikon and the Transgender Welfare Association at the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry hall on Avinashi Road.

The Deputy Commissioner of Law and Order, Balaji Saravanan participated in the event and advised a positive approach to enrich the lifestyle of transgenders.



Balaji Saravanan mentioned the recent incident where transgenders had landed in trouble with the police, and said that the mistakes of a few should not cause transgenders to be labelled as trouble mongers. He appreciated the fact that many transgenders were doing a great job at Government offices and private sectors. He advised the transgender community to work toward a better living. 

The Executive Manager of Imayam, Chithra requested the authorities to help in the case of applications of 30 transgenders for joining Home Guards. She cited that no action had yet been taken to implement the same. Padmini, another transgender requested help to pursue her Ph.D course. The Deputy Commissioner promised to hold a meeting soon to understand the requirements of the transgender community and do the needful.



Welfare schemes worth 3.25 lakhs which includes distribution of food cart, utensils and tailoring machines were distributed by the Fraisier Asia Vice President Hanseng Kim, Rotary Ikon President Sangeetha Mehta and the Executive Director Moorthy. They promised more welfare schemes will be allocated for the transgender community in the future.
