She was candid in setting records straight by saying that she had no help whatsoever from the Centre who had earlier promised on a public forum, to help her.
Mariammal has three sons. Earlier in January, Ranjith an agent who reportedly sent employees abroad had sent Mariammal's first son Manithurai and second son Manikandan promising them good jobs in a garment factory in Thailand. He fleeced Rs. 2,70,000 from each brother and sent them to Thailand. But Ranjith allegedly made the two work in a hotel without providing a work visa or permit card. The agent had both brothers employed in two different places.
Mariammal who was unhappy with the employment arranged for her sons, paid an extra sum of Rs. 58,000 and had her second son, Manikandan brought back to Tirupur. She then petitioned the District Collector twice to bring her elder son who was in bonded labour. Following this, the External Affairs Minister Jaishanker in a tweet assured Mariammal that necessary action will be taken to rescue Manithurai.
But Mariammal now states that even after the assurance by the Minister from the Centre, an official reportedly only enquired about Manithruai but did not inform her of any legal formalities that had been done to bring him back. Mariammal reiterated that she had paid Rs.60,000 on her own and rescued Manithurai from bonded labour in Thailand. Mariammal expressed her disappointment with the Government for not keeping its promise to help. She has further demanded the arrest of the fraudulent agent Ranjith and urged officials to help her recover all the money spent on her sons on account of the fraudster Ranjith's false promises.
