Thirumoorthy and Selvam from Uthukkuli, Tirupur work in a textile company. Their wives got introduced to Selvaraj, an agent who reportedly sends people abroad for work. Believing the false promises made by Selvaraj, Rajeswari the wife of Thirumoorthy and Vasanthamani the wife of Selvam went to Kuwait to work as maids in a house.
It is reported that both women were not paid salaries regularly and were also abused by owners. The women had informed their family about the abuse through a video, after which there has allegedly been no information about both women for over two months. Selvaraj, the agent, has also been avoiding the families' queries. This led to both families petitioning the District Collector, seeking immediate action in having the women freed from their bonded labour to return home.
