16 co-operative industries, over 100 private factories and about 65,000 people depend on the tea industry for their livelihood. The price fall in the last few years caused much distress to the farmers and to solve the issue, there was a demand for the price per kg to be fixed at Rs. 30 for green tea leaves. In accordance with this, the Tea Board had formed a Committee for fixing the prices, led by the District Collector. The Committee has been deciding on a fixed lowest price for farmers beforehand, to avoid loss.
