Coimbatore : In another incident of death due to man-animal conflict, an elderly man from a tribal village in the Nilgiris district lost his life.
Marichelvan (65) from Chinnalakombai Village near Aanai Pallam in the Nilgiris district was found dead after being trampled by an elephant on Monday.
According to reports, family and relatives of Marichelvan set out to search for him after he did not return home after work. The 65-year-old man reportedly went missing after he left from a store near Aanai Pallam area to his home on Sunday.
The locals found the body of an old man being trampled by an elephant and later confirmed that of Marichelvan.
Upon information, the forest officials and police reached to the spot and retrieved the body. Later, the corpse was sent to Coonoor Government Hospital for autopsy.
The Police and the Forest Department are enquiring about the tragic incident.
