Coimbatore: Over 50 tribals of Navamalai near Pollachi thronged the District Collectorate today with an appeal to construct concrete houses for them, in the wake of repeated wild elephant incursions into their villageswhich have resulted in loss of human lives and property.
Coimbatore: Over 50 tribals of Navamalai near Pollachi thronged the District Collectorate today with an appeal to construct concrete houses for them, in the wake of repeated wild elephant incursions into their villageswhich have resulted in loss of human lives and property.
The villagers petitioned the District Collector stating that frequent wildlife incursions into tribal villages have become a frequent occurrence due to which the thatched houses are easily destroyed by rampaging elephants. They cited that in the past two years, wwo tribals had lost their lives due to elephant attacks.
They felt that withdrawing trained Kumki elephants which had been kept in villages to ward off wild elephants had led to wild elephants rampaging again.
The tribals urged the District administration to consider their safety and construct concrete houses in the same locality, to safeguard both their lives and property.
