According to mythology, the presiding deities of Patteswarar temple Perumal and Pachainayagi are believed to have been farmers who took upon the task of sowing and cultivating paddy. In keeping with the tradition, the Devendrakula Vellalar community members throng to Perur from all parts of Tamil Nadu in the Tamil month of 'Aani' to celebrate this festival, amidst great fanfare.

John Pandian, the President of Tamilaga Makkal Munnetra Iyakkam presided over the ninth day proceedings in which poojas were performed in front of the deities, with the accompaniment of decked bulls.

Later, the nurseries were taken to the field to be sowed by the 5000 members who took part in the annual ceremony of ringing in the paddy sowing season.
