Coimbatore: Over 30 people who had bought housing sites in Kovaipudur petitioned the District Collector condemning the labelling of the 'patta' land as belonging to the Slum Clearance Board.
A residential property called Aishwarya Layout at Kovaipudur in Coimbatore was divided into housing sites by a private company. About 30 people who had bought land in Aishwarya layout protested at the District Collectorate, today. The petitioners took off their shirts and raised slogans.
When the police intervened and questioned them, the protesters explained that the sites they had purchased in Aishwarya Layout has a board now which reads that the land belongs to the Slum Clearance Board. They also lamented that they having invested their hard-earned money into buying the land, the Government claiming it as their land is shocking news to them.
