Incessant monsoon showers increase water level to 85 feet at Pillur Dam

Coimbatore: Due to incessant rains in the catchment areas of the Nilgiris district, the Pillur Dam which is one of the major water resources in the District is reportedly filling up quickly.

As of today, the water level was at 85 ft as against the total capacity of 100 ft. The inflow reached an impressive 1,500 sq. ft. per second.

“Thanks to the rains that have been continuous the past three days, catchment areas in the Siruvani Reserve Forests have an impressive flow of 1500 cubic feet. As a result, excess water is being released for power generation purposes,” said PWD officials.

It may be noted that Pillur Dam had brimmed twice and reached its full capacity around the same time, last year. But this year, due to the late onset of the south west monsoon, farmers had become anxious about their farming prospects but the recent rains have allayed their fears.
