Coimbatore: Representing the Indian Students Association, about 15 students arrived at the District Collectorate today to submit a petition on implementing GO 92 in private colleges.
Coimbatore: About 15 students from the Students' Federation of India petitioned at the District Collectorate today to implement GO 92 in private colleges.
In the petition, they stated that all private institutions ought to provide free education and hostel accommodation for SC/ST students, as specified in GO 92.

The students made special mention of RVS Arts and Science College int heir petition saying that the college collected fees from SC/ST students and ousted students from their hostel since they could not pay hostel fees. "Keeping in mind the protests that followed on June 5 at the District Collectorate and the arrests that were made, the private institutions are now vengefully treating students. We request the District Collector to take immediate action to resolve the issue," stressed the students in their petition.
Under Government Orders 1414 and 92 of the Tamil Nadu Government, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students are granted free education until the Degree level, regardless of the income of their parents. In turn, the GO notes that the Directorate of Collegiate Education will reimburse the college for its special fee and examination fee. GO 92 issued in 2014, disburses Central Government grants for the purpose of tribal welfare.
