Coimbatore: Foresters of the Anamalai Tiger Reserve on Friday arrested five men for attempting to trade common sand boa at Angalakurichi here.
According to foresters, based on a tip off, they had laid in wait for the traders to arrive near the PAP canal in Angalakurichi. As soon as the five men arrived at the spot, the detained them and confiscated live sand boa from them.
The accused were identified as J. Sambathkumar (23) from Angalakurichi, B. Nandhakumar (25) from Valparai, R. Chelladurai (45) from Valparai, K. Amirthraj (42) from Valparai and M. Kannan (39) from Valparai.
They were booked under the wildlife protect act and were fined a sum of Rs. 25,000 each.
Notably, sand boas are protected under Schedule III of the Wildlife Protection Act.
