Coimbatore: Shanmuga Sundaram, MP of Pollachi Constituency wrote to the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari to order the NHAI to implement the Vellalore Bus Terminal project on a priority basis.
A report on setting up of an integrated high-tech bus terminal near Vellalore, Kinathukadavu of Pollachi Constituency was prepared last year by the NHAI (National Highways Authority of India).
The State Govt was asked to hand over 60 acres of land for this project to the Central Govt.
NHAI working under the Ministry of Transport has prepared a preliminary report stating the estimate of the project to be Rs. 236 crores which has been pending for a year.
MP Shanmuga Sundaram requested the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to reconsider the implementation of this project to reduce the traffic congestion in Coimbatore City.
"The minister is familiar with the project and has assured that he will come to Coimbatore shortly to take action to expedite the study and I'm humbled to announce that there will be a series of initiatives to accelerate this project," said MP Shanmuga Sundaram.
