Coimbatore: District Forest Officer, Venkatesh slapped a fine of Rs.60, 000 on six persons for hunting and eating venison meat from near a forest area near Mettupalayam.
Coimbatore: District Forest Officer, Venkatesh slapped a fine of Rs.60, 000 on six persons for hunting and eating venison meat from near a forest area near Mettupalayam.
According to sources, a gang of six persons who entered the Kandiyur forests under Mettupalayam range chased a spotted deer and hunted it. After which they cooked the venison meat and while consuming it, they were caught red-handed by vigilant forest officials led by Forest Ranger, Selvaraj.
Forest Ranger Selvaraj, who was doing his patrol with foresters encircled the hideout of the gang where the venison meat was being prepared.
The Forest officials secured two persons Ramasamy (55) and Raghu (26) which led to the arrest of four other persons involved in the illegal hunting of a scheduled animal under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
Ramasamy, Raghu and Sivakumar of Kombarampalaym, Ramesh and Aiyyasamy of Devanapuram, Sivaraj of Kandiyur were slapped with a fine of Rs.10, 000 each for committing the offence of hunting and eating venison meat.
