Villagers chase away sloth bear

The Nilgiris: Villagers of Thenalai in Nilgiris District have chased away a sloth bear which entered their neighbourhood to forage for food from among the heaps of wastes lying in the village.


The Nilgiris: Villagers of Thenalai in the Nilgiris District chased away a sloth bear which entered their neighbourhood to forage for food from among the heaps of uncleared wastes lying in the village.

The sloth bear has been frequently venturing into the village in search of food and started to move menacingly towards the people.



While some villagers locked themselves up in their homes, other joined forces and chased away the bear into the deep jungles.

“The incursion of wild animals including sloth bear, gaur, leopard and elephants have been posing threat for life and property of villages abutting forests. The forest department should take permanent measures to chase the wild animals into the forests” the villagers appealed.
