Coimbatore: Pollachi MP Shanmugasundaram has submitted a petitioned to Minister of Jal Shakthi, Gajendra Singh Shekawat requesting funds for dredging of reservoirs like Aliyar, Parambikulam, Thoonakadavu, Peruvaripalayam, Solaiyar, Appar Neeraru, Lower Neeraru, Amaravathi and Thirumoorthy.

The MP in his petition highlighted that removal of alluvial deposits from the water bodies will increase water storage and percolation.
He reasoned his request by substantiating that 5 TMC of water will be increased in all the the 10 reservoirs across western ghats.
Minister Gajendra Singh Shekawat received his petition and assured of immediate action after complete inspection of the reservoirs.
The Indian Ministry of Jal Shakti (formed by merging of Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation and Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation) is the apex body for formulation and administration of rules and regulations relating to the development and regulation of the water resources in India.
