CM announces salary hike for Anti-Poaching Watchers

Chennai: In a welcome move, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palanisamy on Friday announced increment for the front like staff of the Tamil Nadu Forest Department.

The 1,119 Anti-Poaching Watchers (APW) working in the State would be getting a hike of Rs. 2,500 and thus would receive a monthly sum of Rs. 12,500 against Rs.10,000, their earlier pay. 

The announcement came along with many another developmental activities for the forest department including the geo referencing of forests, which is to be done using differential Global Positioning System at a cost of Rs. 50 crore.

Eight forest extension centres including Coimbatore, Namakkal, Karur, Thanjavur, Kanchipuram, Dharmapuri, Virudhunagar and Chennai are to be modernised at a cost of Rs. 2.4 crore along with interpretation centres in the Tiger reserves and major division forests.

The 577 km stretch of forest roads would also be renovated at a cost of Rs. 57 crores.
