The all-rounder visited Padma Shri Arunachalam Muruganandam in Coimbatore, having heard about his cost-effective manufacture of sanitary napkins.
Bravo reportedly heard about Muruganandam's venture during his IPL season and once his managers confirmed his whereabouts, Bravo arrived from Trinidad and Tobago to meet Muruganandam in KNG Pudur in Coimbatore.
During his meeting, Bravo expressed his concern about girls in his country skipping school during periods, without awareness of menstrual hygiene which was essential. Muruganandam assured Bravo that he would send his special equipment free of cost to Trinidad and Tobago, while Bravo agreed to bear the shipping cost. Though the usual time for transporting machinery takes about a month and a half, Muruganandam assured Bravo that he would have the equipment transported in 10 days.
Muruganandam explained to Bravo about the operation of the equipment, with Bravo keenly observing and even trying his hand at manufacturing two sanitary napkins using the machine. Muruganandam told Bravo that it was such a surprise to meet him since the only cricket player he knew was Sachin Tendulkar.
Muruganandam lauded Bravo for making time amidst his busy cricketing schedule to actually create awareness on the need for menstrual hygiene in women. He felt that it only highlighted the importance of educating girls and women on menstrual hygiene, especially in rural areas. Muruganandam also felt that Bravo would truly be an ambassador for the welfare of women and will help ensure menstrual hygiene in his country.
It is reported that once Trinidad and Tobago starts using the equipment, it will become the 27th country in the world to use Muruganandam's machine.
