Tirupur: The Tirupur Mahila Court sentenced Madhavan (55) of K P Palanisamy Nagar in Vellakoil to 14 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl. The Court also slapped a fine of Rs.10, 000 on him.
Tirupur: The Tirupur Mahila Court sentenced Madhavan (55) of K P Palanisamy Nagar in Vellakoil to 14 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl. The Court also slapped a fine of Rs.10, 000 on him.
According to the prosecution, Madhavan who was working as a watchman at a private bank lured a minor girl and assaulted her when she was playing near his house. The parents of the minor who had come to know about the incident had preferred a formal complaint at the Kangeyam All Women Police Station and a case was filed. The incident took place in 2018. In the meanwhile, Madhavan who came to know about the police complaint had threatened to murder the parents which was also brought to the notice of the prosecutors.

Justice Jayanthi of the Mahila Court who heard the case, found the man guilty of the crime under the provisions of the POCSO Act. The judge awarded 7 years of rigorous imprisonment for the crime and added 7 more years for criminal intimidation. The judge also directed Madhavan to remit a fine for Rs.10, 000, or else to undergo one more year of imprisonment.
