Coimbatore: Attired in pink shirts, the members of the Tamil Nadu TASMAC Employee Association demonstrated in front of the South Taluk Office demanding that they would be made permanent and provided with regular salaries.
As part of the protests, their demands included ensuring permanent jobs for TASMAC employees, regular salaries and filling the 500 junior assistant vacancies through the Tamil Nadu Selection Committee. The protest was led by the special leader of the Association, K Balasubramanian. The protesters raised slogans urging the Government to meet their demands. Apart from Coimbatore, similar protests were held in other cities across the State. The protesters in Chennai wore red shirts, while those in Salem wore blue shirts. Trichy TASMAC members sported green shirts and those in Madurai wore yellow shirts.
Addressing the media, the protesters said that the employees of TASMAC staged a zonal-wide coloured-shirt protest just for regulatory demands of employees. Their demands also included immediate filling of vacancies for Government jobs and equal pay for equal work. They stressed that the former CM Jayalalithaa had promised that the demands of the TASMAC employees would be addressed and blamed the present Government alleging that though they claim to follow her path, they had not taken any action. "If our demands are not met immediately,we shall continue to engage in a series of protests and agitations," reiterated the protesters.
