Tirupur: Farmers in Kangeyam refused entry to power grid officials who had arrived at their fields to measure land for erecting a high tension tower. The DMK and other party cadres had to intervene to discuss the issue with the farmers.

The officials had arrived at Ponnanipalayam near Kangeyam to survey the fields. The farmers argued with the officials and did not allow them to proceed with the measuring of the fields. The DMK Deputy General Secretary, Subbulakshmi Jagadeesh and other party leaders met the farmers to hear them out. In the meeting, the farmers demanded that the high tension wires ought to be laid underground by the roadsides. They protested saying that they would continue to stop officials from entering their farmlands without permission if they were planning to erect high tension towers.
Addressing the media, later, the DMK Deputy General Secretary said that a human chain protest will be organised soon to highlight the need to refrain from setting up such towers that affects the livelihood of farmers. She also added that the leaders of the farmers who will be affected by the petrol pipe line and high tension towers will meet the DMK Chief, M K Stalin to submit their requests.
