Father petitions Collector seeking refund of fees from private educational institution

Coimbatore: The parent of a student who discontinued her course from a private dental college here within a week from admission petitioned the District Collector on Wednesday against the management for denying refund of her tuition fees.


Coimbatore: The parent of a student who discontinued her course from a private dental college here within a week from admission petitioned the District Collector on Wednesday against the management for denying refund of her tuition fees. 

According to the petition, Sharmili enrolled at the Ramakrishna Dental College here in the year 2014-15 for pursuing Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS). 

Within a week, she discontinued her studies at the college. It is alleged that her father, Dhanapal had paid Rs.16.9 lakhs to the management, as donation and tuition fees. 

Dhanapal is his petition alleged that when he approached the college management for refund of fees, the college administration reportedly delayed the refund for a while and then returned only a sum of Rs 4.8 lakhs in two installments. 

He further alleged that the college administration reportedly delayed the refund process for the next three years, without paying the remaining Rs 12.1 lakhs. 

He claimed in his petition that the hospital management had also threatened him, whenever he pressurised them for refund. Speaking to the media, Dhanapal said that he had decided to file a complaint because he was unable to pay interest on the amount paid to the college administration for his daughter's admission.
