The deceased, Phalkis Begum, was a resident of Periya Pallivasal in Tirupur who had separated from her husband Ibrahim due to marital conflicts. She was living with her two children. On June 30, Phalkis Begum was found stabbed to death in her home. The South Tirupur Police filed a murder case and arrested K Abu Dahir, a resident of Pallapatti, Dindugul suspecting him to be the murderer.
According to reports, Abu Dahir worked in Kombai Thottam in Tirupur, and while living in the area had developed a relationship with Phalkis Begum. When he discovered that Phalkis Begum was also in an illicit relationship with someone else, he confronted her. However, she denied his accusations which was followed by a heated argument between the two. In a fit of rage, Abu Dahir stabbed Palkis Begum with a knife and fled the spot.

Subsequently, the Tirupur South Police formed a special team to hunt down the suspected murderer. Abu Dahir was arrested in Dindugul and later brought to Tirupur.
