A controversial topic among residents and opposition parties, the Suez project is being looked at as a move aimed at privatising water. Of the many concerns and queries that had been raised over the implementation of the Suez scheme, a couple of them were answered by the CCMC Commissioner, Sravan Kumar Jatavath at the Grievance Day Program (GDP) today, which has been restarted after nearly four years.
The CCMC Commissioner also announced today during the GDP that CCMC will set up three-member groups in each ward to monitor Rainwater Harvesting structures in residential buildings.
“CCMC is serious about implementing Rainwater Harvesting measures in the city. These three-member groups will inspect the buildings and if it is found that the rainwater harvesting structure is not available in any building, CCMC will give them another opportunity and time to build such structures before August 15. If the structures are not ready by then, the Corporation will take serious action against those not complying," stated the CCMC Commissioner.
Replying to a query about Suez, the CCMC Commissioner said “The pilot project is now going on at R S Puram. Now that the difficulties faced during implementation is known, the project will be executed without causing trouble for the public. Water tax will remain the same and tax collection will be carried out only by CCMC," he assured.
Today, during GDP, 61 petitions were received and according to officials the number is likely to rise during the coming weeks.
The GDP was welcomed as a helpful initiative by the public who had many questions and concerns about the present status of water supply in the District and its administration by the CCMC.
