Coimbatore: Rajan and his wife Rukmani (37) who are residents of Kuttaiyur in Mettupalayam (MTP) were on their way home from a temple in Mettupalayam when their vehicle collided with a lorry near Abirami Theatre on the MTP-Karamadai road.

The public rushed both of them to the Mettupalayam Government Hospital wit the aid of 108 ambulance. Rukmani was declared dead which angered family members. They attacked the doctor and nurse who had treated her and also caused an uproar in the hospital.

The kin of the couple accused the duty doctor and the nurse alleging that Rukmani had died due to medical negligence. The entire incident has been recorded on the hospital's CCTV.

Condemning this brutal attack on the doctor and nurse on duty, doctors and 60 nurses working at the MTP GH staged a protest in front of the hospital, demanding immediate action against the kin who had assaulted their colleagues.

The protest was led by the Government Medical Association Secretary, Ravishankar with over 100 medical staff protesting by raising slogans. They not only demanded the arrest of the assaulters but also requested the police to ensure the safety of doctors. Meanwhile, police are investigating the incident based on the complaint lodged by Dr.Cheralathan, the Chief Doctor of MTP Government Hospital.
