After re-opening, Kovai Kuttralam will be a new experience

Coimbatore: With renovated falls area, freshly laid road and the newly constructed children play area, the Kovai Kuttralam falls, a facility known to attract tourists round the year is all set to give people a new feeling altogether.

Despite being closed to public for more than three months, the newly renovated facility 'Kovai Kuttralam' at the foothills of the Western Ghats will not be the same rugged place again.

Coimbatore: With renovated falls area, freshly laid road and the newly constructed children play area, the Kovai Kuttralam water falls, a facility known to attract tourists round the year is all set to give people a new experience altogether.

The improved facilities will not only make it a pleasant experience for public, but would also ensure safety. However, people will have to wait for a week or more before stepping into the new facility as renovation works are still on.

The water falls was initially closed on the March 25, citing drought and the facility almost ran out of water in the following days. With most of the forested landscape in Coimbatore running dry, elephant movement was notably high around the falls area, which was one of the cited reason for closure.

Lack of rain in the summer and monsoon seasons helped officials to carry out concrete constructions in the play area. Big boulders in the main play area downstream where initially removed and one of the streams on the left side of the falls was closed to give way for construction.

Earlier, deep holes in the falls area above the main pool were closed with concrete to give space for people to stand. Earlier, it would be difficult for people to move in the space because of deep holes, sharp hedges and slippery rocks on the ground. The steps in the area are also being renovated.

The road leading to the falls, which was filled with potholes giving tourists a bumpy ride, is also being re-laid upto the old parking inside the reserve.

In addition to the renovation in the play area, the Eco Development Committee under which tourism is carried out in Kovai Kuttralam, is also seeing some changes. The committee will get new office bearers who will be selected by the members of the committee.

Once things go well, with the monsoon expected to downpour a decent amount of rain giving life to the streams above the falls, the facility will see a grand opening, shortly.
