Coimbatore: Eureka (19), a student of a private college on the Coimbatore-Pollachi Road who was also a national level boxer committed suicide by consuming pesticide.
Eureka, the daughter of Bhuvaneshwaran, a resident of Poosaripalayam, Coimbatore was pursuing her third-year Mechanical Engineering at Rathinam Institute of Engineering and Technology. Since childhood, she had been an aspiring boxer and participated in district, state and national level competitions. Yesterday, Eureka committed suicide by consuming pesticide. She was rushed by her parents to the Coimbatore Government Hospital but succumbed last night. Her body was sent for postmortem and the Selvapuram police had begun investigating the case.

Upon investigation, it was found out that Eureka had been continually requesting her parents to change her college as she was the only girl student in her class. But since her parents kept on denying her request, she had reportedly taken this extreme step to end her life.

But Eureka's friends have another story to tell. They alleged that Eureka was very eager to participate in an international level boxing competition but the management had not provided her with adequate support and had also denied permission for leave, to participate in the competition. When the management was questioned on this, they dismissed the accusation by her friends stating that the administration had always backed her by doing the needful for her as well as providing free education for her.
