Coimbatore: Rajendran, a resident of Chinna Thadagam in Coimbatore petitioned the District Collector, K Rajamani to take immediate action to curb the plundering of mineral resources that has affected the lives of people.

In his petition, Rajendran stated that in the areas of Chinnathadagam, Veerapandi, Somayampalayam and Panimadai Panchayat areas, there are about 40,000 residents. "Due to the plundering of mineral resources, the public have been affected. Many are involved in farming in these areas. But in the last 20 years, a brick kiln was erected in this area to produce 4000 loads of bricks daily for which they dig up to 50 to 60 feet. The brick manufacturers use robots to rake in the soil, and now they have started to take gravel and sand too.

The brick manufacturers are earning in crores by plundering the natural resources here, while the smoke emitted in the process of heating raw bricks poses health hazards for residents nearby. There is water shortage too due to the increased use of bore well water," added the petitioner.

Rajendran urged the District Collector to intervene in the matter and take appropriate action immediately since the authorities related to mineral resources have not initiated any course of action in spite of petitioning them, many times.
