Coimbatore: The hostel students of Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA), located at Avinashi Road staged a dharna at the hostel premises protesting against the proposed tariff hike.
Young Women's Association Hostel (YWCA) located in the Avinashi Road is a hostel residence for more than 150 women, which includes school, college students and working women. The students of YWCA hostel staged a dharna rebuking the sudden increase in the tariff rate. The protesters were accusing the management of increasing the tariff at will and frequently.
"There are no basic facilities in the hostel for increasing the tariff rates," the irked protesters said.
The Race Course Police arrived at the spot and tried convincing the students to withdraw their protest and discussed with both the protesters and management. Similarly, the administration assured the students in the presence of the police that they will come up with a permanent solution to the issue.
The dharna protest at the women's hostel at night caused a stir on Avinashi Road.
