The family members of a pregnant woman, identified as Pechithaai, alleged that the baby in her womb died due to medical negligence of doctors at the hospital.
According to the family, Maruthupandi and Pechithaai hailing from Puthukudi in Thoothukudi were childless for over 13 years. They had been undergoing treatment at Iswarya Fertility Centre in Avarampalayam. After 1.5years of treatment, Pechithaai got pregnant.
She has been regularly visiting the doctors who advised scan for every 15 days until the birth of the baby. While Pechithaai was 5 1/2 months into pregnancy, she developed uneasiness and complained of abdominal pain on Sunday.
It is alleged that the doctor at the fertility centre who examined Pechithaai informed that an injection has to be administered on an emergency basis.
"For administering the injection, she was shifted to the ICU. As per the scan report at 5 pm, the doctors said that both mom and the child were doing fine. However, at 10 pm the doctors informed us that the foetus had died in the womb. And, that the condition of the mother is critical", told the family.
Infuriated by the death of the baby in the womb, the relatives accused that the negligence of the doctors had caused the mishap. They also pointed that they had spent 14 lakhs for the treatment, so far.
Responding to the allegation, the hospital management has stated that "About 20% of the women undergoing infertility treatment are prone to miscarriage. In this case, Pechithaai was pregnant with twin, she developed a medical complication that lead to the death of the foetus. All patients are being provided with best of treatment at our centre."
